They knew from the moment their eyes met that they were it for each other, the one, that person that they wanted to gaze at forever, to see first thing in the morning and last thing at night. They also knew that their love would have to be kept secret, at least for a time, there were those in each of their families who would not approve. A tale as old as time.
One day, not long into their secret courtship, he slipped something into her hand when they had to part and squeezed her fingers closed around it; it wasn’t until she was alone in her room that she was able to gaze upon the brooch he’d hidden there. The top was simple, flowers and a garter, stylish but simple, but when she looked closer she saw that the brooch carried a secret, a compartment that opened to reveal it’s real message, ‘Forget me not’. She already knew that she never, ever could.
This wonderful Victorian era brooch was hand crafted in 1898 and bears full English hallmarks. It is marked for having been made in Birmingham of sterling silver in 1898 by ‘W.J.H.’. The piece measures 40 mm across and 19.3 mm high and weighs 4.1 grams.
