Vintage 1930s Silver Greyhound Dog Brooch Pin

Greyhounds are an ancient breed that is thought to have originated in Egypt around 9,000 years ago. They were bred for hunting large game, using their sight and not their scent. The name comes from the German, “greishund” which means, “old dog”. In 1014 AD, English Law stated that killing a greyhound was punishable by death.

This adorable silver dog brooch was handcrafted in England around 1930. It’s a vintage pin weighing 4.4 grams and measuring 29 x 35 mm. It bears the silver fineness mark, “STERLING SILVER”.

Queen Victoria was well known for owning her own greyhounds, back in the day.
