Vintage Arts & Crafts Enamel Silver Necklace '1921'

The May Queen is a lucky girl, crowned with flowers, who is chosen to be the queen of merrymakers on May Day. She presides over the day’s celebrations, giving a speech before the dancing commences. The tradition of May Queen has existed for centuries, stemming from the origination of May Day, which began as a pagan festive holy day celebrating the first spring planting. Ancient Celts and Saxons feasted as winter ended and the sun returned.

This antique Arts and Crafts necklace was handcrafted in England in 1921. It’s a silver cross with a reddish-pink enameled center on a pendant that measures 53.2 x 39.5 mm. It weighs 16 grams and has been acid tested. The back of this cross bears the inscription, “1921 Deborah Davies Mayqueen”.

May Queen or not, this cross necklace will make you feel like royalty.
