Vintage Danish Eiler and Marloe Deer Ring Silver

Eiler and Marloe was a jewelry making firm in Copenhagen, Denmark from 1920 to 1967. They were part of the Scandinavian movement known as “Skonvirke”, which, when translated, means, “beautiful work”. It’s a fitting phrase as many of the makers of this movement were trained sculptors, designing and crafting their way to unforgettable and highly coveted works of art. Skonvirke held an aesthetic tenet that was part Arts and Crafts, and part Art Nouveau. It was a reaction to over industrialization, it sought quality craft work, but it also wanted to be accessable to the masses. Eiler and Marloe specialized in silver and were known for high quality products and design. They went out of business in 1967 and their company was acquired by Georg Jensen Ltd..

This Danish vintage silver deer ring was handcrafted around 1950. It bears the Eiler and Marloe mark, “E&M” as well as the firm’s maker’s mark which is an “E” with a looping connected “M” around it. It’s a size 6.25 and weighs 5.4 grams. The ring face measures 23.1 x 15 x 2 mm off the finger. It bears the silver fineness mark, “830S”, and the number, “517”.

Deer have symbolized many things over the years. To Native Americans, they were considered messengers. Other cultures regarded them as a symbol of harmony.
