She carefully wrapped boxes and tied them with crimson ribbon. She wrote out Christmas cards and put reindeer stamps on each. Afterwards, she wandered the sidewalks with a cinnamon hot chocolate and a red scarf, window shopping, admiring the lights, enjoying the Christmas trees, and the spirit of holiday shoppers. She decided to buy herself a little something, to remind her of this wonderful feeling all year long, a little golden charm.

It was all in a glance, the way she turned her head when she thought she heard her name across the room. Her eyes gazed around, searching. The silver abalone ring around her finger reflected light from the bright chandelier, just for a second, as she shifted. The abalone took on a life of its own, shining like moving water from the inside. She turned back to her conversation, as if nothing had happened.
This vintage silver abalone ring was handcrafted in Denmark by Carl Ove Fryensburg. It was crafted around 1950-60 with a round shimmery and colorful slice of abalone shell. This ring is a size 7 and it weighs 7.7 grams. The ring face measures 18.8 x 19 x 10.8 mm off the finger and the band width is 7 mm at the back. It bears the silver fineness mark, “STERLING”, the origin mark, “DEMARK” and the maker’s mark, “COF”.
This retro ring sits high on the finger, like a statement piece should.

I simply could not resist the amazing style of this phenomenal 1960s bracelet! To be honest, I didn't even really try. It is just so beautifully made that I at first mistook it for a much earlier piece. Each plaque is hand crafted and shows a great degree of skill and an eye for style that brings to mind the designs of the cosmos. Each is set with a glowing round cabochon opal and two bright fuchsia rubies, like little ringed planets circling in their own orbits.
The panels are hand crafted of glowing yellow 9 karat gold in a fabulous sort of undulating shape, and each has fantastic details, including a full back frame to hold the bracelet up off of the wrist for an optimal play of light when it's worn. Each plaque is marked with a '9' and '375' for 9 karat gold and it also bears hallmarks indicating that it was made in London in 1969. It weighs 26.8 grams and measures 8 inches long. The plaques are 17 mm long each and 17.7 mm wide and it sits 6.5 mm off the wrist. Each of the 10 opals are 0.14 carat each for a total weight of 1.4 carats. The 20 rubies add up to about .40 carats total.
This is the kind of fantastic vintage jewel that can be worn so easily, that it can go from Barbecue to Black Tie!!

We had a party to celebrate her new status a citizen of the United States. We hung streamers and banners in red, white and blue and gave her a sash to wear in the same colors. She beamed, her eyes dancing with light, her sweet face graced with pride.
She had the soul of a writer and a more varied and interesting life than most can even imagine. She spoke four languages, fluently. She was born in Russia but lived parts of her life in various parts of the United States, lectured and wrote at Princeton, she lived in the UK, too, visited Switzerland, India and more. She married a famous architect and lived with him for a time. He bought her jewels. This was one of them. She was my friend and I was honored to know her, she was kind and funny and wicked smart.
This fabulously hand crafted bracelet was made in the mid-late 1960’s. It’s so beautifully made that I thought for sure it must be by some famous designer, but it bears no marks and my research turned up only some vague ideas. It is a gloriously heavy length of 80.82 grams of 18 karat gold artfully wrapped around 35 bright blue sapphires of varying sizes which add up to 11.34 carats total weight. It is additionally set with 45 high luster pearls, white with silvery overtones, these being 2.5 and 6 mm each. The bracelet is 6.5 inches long with a delightfully hidden clasp, it measures 21 mm wide and 8 mm deep.
This bracelet comes with a full independent appraisal, the appraised value is $15,000 USD.

The Art Deco style was all about sparkle, all about contrast, they loved to play bright orange against black, loved angular lines, chevrons, patterns, and colors derived from ancient Egypt abounded. This fantastic Art Deco era ring is a perfect example.
The center of this ring is an eye-popping round polished bead of bright orange/red coral, the chevron and half round designs around it are set with bright, sparkling, faceted marcasite gems. The ring measures 22 mm north to south and 19.4 mm across, the coral bead is 7.5 mm across and 6 mm high. The ring is handcrafted in sterling silver and marked '925' on the back of the band. I'm not exact on the origin of this ring, continental European, most likely. It was certainly made around 1925-1930. The ring is a size 5.5 and could be resized to suit, it weighs 3.7 grams.
