Vintage German Owl Brooch Pin in Silver Gilt

Athena had the owl as a symbol. She was Athen’s patron goddess and considered the goddess of wisdom. The idea of the Owl as a wise and mostly benevolent being has lasted ever since.

I just couldn’t resist this German Art Deco era owl. To be honest, I didn’t even really try. His charming face and bright whisky-gold eyes are completely distracting, his eyes seem to follow you around the room. The brooch is hand crafted in .835 silver and marked ‘835’ on the back, it’s been gilded in gold. This pin measures 46.6 mm top to bottom and 48.5 mm across, it weighs 21.6 grams.

Made in Germany around 1925.
