Vintage Italian Silver Crab Pendant Locket Fully Articulated

He’s not the kind of thing that I usually buy, but I was utterly helpless against his charms. The very best thing about him is the sound that he makes, his little arms and legs are so fully articulated that he makes a perfect imitation of a crab noise as he moves. It’s fascinating and endless fun.

This wonderful silver crab was hand crafted in Italy by O.P Orlandini for Uno A-Erre in the 1960s. He is actually a locket of sorts, maybe there to hold a seashell or some other treasure. This fantastic crab is fairly large in size, it measures 74.5 mm across at the widest point and 53.1 mm north to south, and it’s 13.7 mm deep. This lovely pendant is marked ‘Uno A Erra’, ‘O.P. Orlandini’ and ‘Mod. Dep’, as well as ‘800’ for the silver. This pendant weighs 53.3 grams. It needs a robust chain, please inquire if you need one.

My family owns a summer home on Cape Cod, and every summer we see these little fiddler crabs by the hundreds, clicking away just like this one.
