Vintage Peynet Silver French Lovers Necklace

Raymond Peynet was a French illustrator born in 1908. His most famous works were based on two characters he dubbed as ‘The Lovers’, or, ‘Les Amoureux’ in French. They were painted and drawn on vases, jewelry, prints, books, posters, and even postage stamps! Cherished by an entire culture for more than half a century, this beautiful piece of jewelry features these two beloved characters.

This darling vintage silver necklace was handcrafted in France around 1940. It’s a heart shaped piece, perfectly fitting for this romantic motif. The pendant is larger then the ones I usually see, it measures 25.4 x 22.7 mm and the chain measures 19.75 inches in length. It bears the image of two people, a man and woman who seem so in love, gazing at a precious bird sitting in his hand. It looks as thought they’re on a cloud, probably cloud nine. The back of the pendant reads, “Les amoureaux de peynet” and it also reads, “Graves non contaux”. It bears a maker’s mark and has been acid tested.

These lovers would be an adorable gift for that special someone in your life.
