Rings from the Retro Era mark a transition between the scarcities of the war years and stepping into the future and out of an uncertain past. Geometric shapes and dramatic design highlight the typical aesthetic of this bold genre. The use of colored gemstones was all the rage, like the round cut cabochon sapphires in this piece, that give this yellow gold ring a splash of blue. This ring plays with symmetry and shape, it’s bold yet elegant. Jewelry was worn as a statement, encompassing glamour and modernity. It reflected mood and innovation. It was an exciting time for accessories, from 1935 through the 1950s. Inspiration stemmed out of the Art Deco period and infused with wartime ideas – such as the shape of tank treads or assembly lines.
This vintage diamond and sapphire gold ring was handcrafted in the United States during this time period, likely the 1950s, and is surely a design of the times. The face holds 14 glittering diamonds set in the shape of a diamond with four cabochon sapphires on the edges of the face. All of the stones are platinum set over 14 karat gold. There are no marks and it has been acid tested. This ring is a size 4.75 and weighs 3.5 grams. The ring face measures 12 x 15 x 5.5 mm off the finger with a band width of 2.5 grams.
Rock this retro ring the next time you’re out and about and never hear an end to the compliments!
