Vintage Scottish Thistle Ring Silver

The thistle is the national symbol of Scotland - it stands for pain, protection, and pride. There is a legend based in the 13th century, when the Norse King’s soldiers invaded a Scottish Coastal town. This Viking King plotted to sneak slyly in on the Scottish Clansmen and Highlanders while they slept. The soldiers decided to go barefoot, as to not make a sound. One of the soldiers accidentally stepped on a prickly thistle and cried out in pain. His scream was so loud it woke the Scots who were roused to arms and came out victorious.

This vintage Scottish thistle ring was handcrafted in silver. It is a size 7.25 US and weighs 3.9 grams. The face measures 14 mm north to south at the tallest point. It is marked with the word, ‘Sterling’ and the phrase, ‘Made in Scotland’.

There’s a lot of history and lore around this humble plant, and for good reason. It’s strong and durable, unassuming and powerful.
