Vintage Silver Claddagh Ring Size 6.5

I was rummaging through the booths of the Ardingly antique show on a cold morning with a coffee in one hand and a pain-au-raisin in the other when I came across this claddagh ring, a representation of two hands clasped in friendship. It’s a traditional Irish ring, a style that was born in the late 1600s or early 1700s, and given as an engagement or wedding ring, or as a token of friendship. The stall keeper told me stories of how the design originated in the Irish village of Claddagh, now part of Galway.

This vintage version of a silver claddagh ring was handcrafted around 1920. It’s an English piece featuring the traditional claddagh motif of two hands holding each other. This lovely ring is a size 6.5 and it weighs 2.3 grams. The ring face measures 7.3 x 18 x 2 mm off the finger and the band width is 2.5 mm at the back. It bears the mark, “SILVER” and has been acid tested.

The claddagh ring has a tendency to be passed down as an heirloom from mother to daughter and kept in the family with passion and pride. It’s truly a timeless motif with a romantic message of both friendship and adoration, an instant heirloom if you ask me!
