Vintage St. Christopher Silver Round Pendant

The name Christopher means ‘Christ-bearer’, fitting for a man who is known as the patron saint of safe travels. History remains mysterious as St. Christopher is one of the most popular saints, and yet, he may not have existed at all. There is one man that many believe to have been the real-life Christopher, he was born around 300 BC and was named Reprobus. This man wanted to serve the “greatest king of all” and eventually decided to seek out Christ.

He chose to spend his time helping people cross the river, as his height, rumored to be more than seven feet tall, and sturdiness, would be useful there. A child asked for his assistance and without hesitation, Reprobus agreed. The waters grew angry and the current strengthened, the child felt heavier and heavier, as they went on. Only after they safety made it across did the child reveal himself as Christ. The local king didn’t like that Reprobus was converting his people to Christianity and had him beheaded.

This vintage silver pendant features St. Christopher assisting Christ across the river. It’s a round piece that measures 28.5 mm in diameter and weighs 4.6 grams. It bears the hallmark, “SILVER”. This pendant was likely handcrafted in the 1960s.
