Wonderful Antique Men's Keeper Ring in 18k Gold, English Victorian Hallmarked

This exceedingly large and wonderfully hand crafted Keeper ring is a size 11.25 US. But it's not just the size of the ring, it's the scale. Weighing in at nearly 12 grams of 18 karat gold, it has a heft and feel that speak to power and sheer mass. It's manly. Yeah, I said it, manly. An underused word if you ask me.

The Keeper has many legends, amongst them is the that it was given as a sort of pre-engagement or betrothal ring a year before an official engagement was made. It was a sign that the giver thought that the receiver was worth 'keeping'. All roads led to romance in Victorian England and the appeal and mystery of the Keeper ring still abounds today. This one was handmade in Chester, England, in 1900, just at the very end of Victoria's reign. It is wonderfully sentimental and would serve well as a wedding band for a man. It could be sized down a bit (or up a bit), but it truly is quite large in scale and would look best on a larger hand. It has weathered only slightly in its hundred and twenty-four years and it is sure to look great for at least a hundred more. The gold has the soft feel of heavy velvet. It's quite nice. And manly.
