In March of 2012, workers restoring a building in St. Petersburg found a hoard of over 1,000 pieces of silver, jewelry and precious objects hidden in a secret storage space between two floors. The items were wrapped in newspaper that dated from the early months of 1917, around the time of the February Revolution which toppled the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II. The building was a palace which had belonged to one of Russia’s most prominent noble families, the Naryshkins.
As World War I pushed Russia to the brink of it’s resources, and it’s large army was led to ruinous battles by a lack of leadership, the Russian ruble was driven into deep recession and the Russian people were driven into starvation. In March of 1917, the Tsar was overthrown and forced to abdicate and the nobility of Russia fled to other parts of the world or were imprisoned or sent to Siberia. Tsar Nicholas and his family were taken away and eventually detained in a house in Yekaterinburg where they were brutally murdered in the basement in the wee hours of July 17, 1918. When the bodies were searched, the guards found jewelry, gems, and strings of pearls sewn into their clothing.
This fantastic bracelet was made in Russia in about 1914, only a few years before the Revolution. Was it made for nobility? Did it ride out of Russia in the early days of 1917 sewn into the lining of a fur coat? Was it discovered hidden in a wall or under a floor, dug up by an unsuspecting farmer? I don’t know, I don’t guess we’ll ever know. I purchased it in London from a lovely lady who purchased it in Poland. It’s probably gone through more than a few hands since it’s creation, graced more than a few wrists.
This fabulous bracelet was hand crafted by a master craftsman and is bezel set with a fabulous bright blue antique cushion cut, 3 carat natural sapphire which shows no signs of enhancement. The stone weight was estimated in the mounting. It is further set with 18 full cut and 48 rose cut diamonds which add up to approximately 3.12 carats total weight. This piece is fully hallmarked with Russian marks and these marks indicate it’s metal fineness at 14 karat gold, the stones are set in platinum. The gold has a rosy hue, the metals were also acid tested to verify content. This bracelet is 7 inches long and weighs 15.6 grams. The overall face measures 46.1 mm from north to south and narrows to 3 mm wide at the back. There is a slot catch with safety clasp. This piece comes with a full appraisal and is valued at $45,000, it also includes an AGL certification which reports that the sapphire is unheated and untreated and is Ceylon in origin.
This fantastic Russian beauty makes me wish (not for the first time) that jewelry could talk. What a tale it would have to tell. If you feel you need a mesmerizing jewel with an important past that you can wear for now and sew into the lining of your yoga pants if the Bolsheviks should rise up yet again, this stunning bracelet would certainly be an excellent choice!

Some pieces I buy on a pure, girly, bubble gum, princess fantasy level. Because, let’s face it, sometimes a girl just needs something sparkly and fabulous to get her through the day. Dropping off the kids, picking up the kids, doing load after load of laundry, feeding the dog (because does anyone else remember to feed the dog?); these things are all made a little bit easier when a girl’s got a good manicure and a ring like this on her finger. It’s equally excellent for romantic dates with the hubs, cocktails on Thirsty Thursday with the ladies, and if you’re so inclined, this one would be quite at home at the Academy Ball, dancing through the halls of the Bellevue in a frosty ball gown.
This early Art Deco beauty was hand crafted in platinum in about 1915. The star of the show is a gorgeous sugarloaf cut of velvety sapphire in the most amazing bright blue hue. This rich, gorgeous stone has been graded by AGL as a natural, unheated stone which is Cambodian in origin and weighs approximately 6.35 carats. The sapphire is surrounded by 48 mine cut and early single cut diamonds of E-G color and VS1-I1 clarity which add up to 1.3 carats in total weight, stones that wink and sparkle with every move you make. The ring is a size 8.25 and could be sized to suit. It weighs 7.8 grams.
Not a simple bauble, but a once-in-a-lifetime, you’ve-been-a-very-good-girl kind of ring. This ring comes with an AGL certification on the stone and a full appraisal by a GIA Master Gemologist. The insurance replacement value of this ring is $45,000 USD.

Here is a wonderful and cheeky rooster who is beautifully hand crafted. The body of the bird is created from a large, natural, Baroque Pearl. His tail is set with a spray of rubies, diamonds and sapphires; and his head is further set with rubies, sapphires and emeralds. The brooch is fully engraved with fanciful and realistic details down to the toes on its perfect little feet.
This piece is marked on the back of the leg, but I was not able to make these marks out. It was most likely made in France in the 1940s, at a time when these brooches were highly desirable and created by many of the important jewelry houses. Buccellati, Cartier, Yard and Tiffany all crafted brooches in this genre, many with a pearl as the central body of the animal. It's quite possible this brooch was created by one of these important houses. It's beautifully crafted, note how the back is left open to reveal the back of this magnificent, 60 carat natural pearl.
The body of this piece tests as 18 karat gold and the diamonds are set in platinum. The pin stem has a trombone style clasp. The brooch measures 55 x 53x 17 mm and weighs 21.56 grams.
This piece has been expertly appraised by an independent appraiser and has a value of $15,000. Please inquire for a full copy of the detailed appraisal.

One of the joys of being someone who deals in vintage and antique jewelry is finding that one elusive treasure. That amazing jewel which is like no other you’ve come across before. When it’s something as beautiful and rare as this ring, it just makes you weak in the knees.
This fantastic Art Deco French cut diamond eternity band just wasn’t a ring that I could walk away from, I absolutely had to have it. This beautifully hand crafted platinum band is set with 23 diamonds which measure about 3x3x2.4 mm each and weigh about .15 carats each for a total diamond weight of about 3.25 carats. The stones display the cross and open cutlet of wonderful, early French cuts and are nice, white and clean stones. The ring measures 3.6 mm north to south and sits 2.5 mm off the finger. The edges of this ring are richly engraved with swirling details. The inside of the band is marked ‘P950’ for the platinum content. This hand crafted ring was made around 1920, it weighs 4.7 grams.
For an engagement ring she’ll never tire of, or a wedding ring that will be a solitaires best friend, alone or stacked, this ring is a once in a lifetime beauty.

In a gown of lace and ivory she walked down an aisle bordered by mahogany pews, lined with the smiling faces of her friends and family. She held a bouquet of white roses accented with cranberries and evergreens. Her smile was mulberry and her bright green eyes were stuck on him, waiting for her at the front, just steps away. There was music, she was sure of it, but she was too nervous to hear it. Her ears were adorned in diamonds, something old and something borrowed. Her neck bore a strand of creamy white pearls which her mother had given her only moments ago. On her finger she wore his grandmothers diamond ring. It was hard to tell what part of her they were staring at, her joy, or her sparkle.
This gorgeous vintage white gold diamond ring was handcrafted around 1930; it holds an incredibly sparkly Old European cut diamond which measures 7 x 7 x 4 mm and weighs 1.02 carats, a VS2, J/K stone. It’s likely an American made piece with filigree and flowers up and down the shoulders. This ring is a size 6.75 and weighs 3.2 grams. It bears the gold purity hallmark, “18KW”. The ring face measures 9.5 x 16 x 6 mm off the finger and the band width is 2 mm at the back.
If you are looking for that perfect, heirloom quality, vintage diamond engagement ring, well, you just found it!

Do you remember that red sequined dress that Kate Capshaw wore in 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom'? You know the one, right? They were in Club Obi Wan (get it?) in Shanghai; Indy in that fabulous white tux and Willie Scott in that slinky red dress with the gold sequins and mandarin collar. Don't you think that this ring would have been perfect for that scene? It would be brilliant with that dress. Not that it doesn't feel right at home with jeans and a tee shirt, mind you!
An oval cabochon cut ruby of the most utterly fantastic blood red is the star of this show. This ruby measures 8.1 mm across and 6.75 mm north to south and is 4.44 mm deep for an estimated weight of 2.62 carats. This natural stone is the most gorgeous color. It is set into a 22 karat gold mounting with four prongs and the mount sparkles and glows with even the slightest movement as it set with 36 brilliant cut diamonds that add up to about 1.26 carats in total diamond weight, the diamonds are E-G in color and VS1-I1. The ring is inscribed inside the band with the date: "15.1.75", European for the 15th of January, 1975. The face of the ring is 8.5 mm from north to south and sits 8.3 mm off the finger, it tapers to 2.8 mm at the back of the band. This ring is a size 7 and could be re-sized somewhat to suit, it weighs 6.5 grams. It is unmarked (other than the inscription) and has been acid tested to verify that it is 22 karat gold.
This ring might not get you Harrison Ford, but Indy, well, that's a different story altogether.

A giant, flashing, golden citrine is the sunshine of this fabulous flower garden; so big and juicy that one can almost smell the daisies! An homage to peace, love, and happiness, this pretty and haute couture hippie ring brings bright flower power on even the rainiest of days. With a ring like this, you could truly bring your own sunlight wherever you happen to venture!
The royal sized rectangular faceted golden citrine stone is set inside 23 various sized gold daisies, some of which are actually attached to the ring in an en-tremblant fashion, shake and twist with every move of your lovely hand. It was most likely crafted in the 1960s, possibly in France, which is where I purchased it. It is marked with an as yet unidentified makers mark (I’d be delighted to hear if anyone recognizes it!), but it’s otherwise unmarked. Although I don’t yet know the designer, this is most certainly a special designer piece, it is quite spectacular. The mesmerizing citrine is a fabulous deep golden color kissed with orange, truly the color of sunlight at dusk, it measures 29.5 mm north to south and 24.5 mm wide by 16 mm deep, and totals about 76.61carats. The ring narrows to 5 mm wide at the back of the band. It's been acid tested to ensure 18 karat gold purity. This piece is a size 8.5 and weighs 42.2 grams, I think it could be re-sized pretty easily, care should be taken to preserve the mark.
This ring makes me think of that song... 'Sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows....' when this ring is near, the rain truly does disappear!

Only a tiny mineral change and the right machinations of the Earth’s crust came along to kiss the stone with enough fire to turn it this brilliant shade of bright red. It’s almost as if that intense heat has been captured in the form of this glowing and sparkling gem. A rare and stunning stone that only fire could create.
This stunning Ruby and diamond ring was hand crafted in France in about 1880. The fabulous natural ruby shows signs of being untreated, it measures 8x5.8x3 mm and weighs approximately 1.1 carats. The ruby is surrounded by 12 chunky Old Mine Cut diamonds which are bright and lively. The diamonds are rated as F-G in color and VS1-SI2 in clarity with most being VS, they add up to 1.52 total carats, each shoulder is further set with a small mine cut diamond of .055 carats, for a total diamond weight in this ring of 1.63 carats. The ring measures 15.13 mm north to south and 11.7 mm across, it sits 4.2 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.75 mm at the back of the band.
This antique, halo style ring is marked on the outside of the band with the French hallmark of the right facing Eagles head and was further tested as 18 karat gold. It weighs 4.13 grams and is a US size 7.

In early Spring, before the leaves begin to deepen into summer green, before the flowers open and release their heady fragrance, the hills around my home seem to glow with a halo of pure, Spring green. It tickles the eyeballs and delights the senses, a landscape reborn. When I saw these earrings, sitting in windowed office watching the snow fall on frosty London, it reminded me of the green hills of home. The pure verdant green hue of that most rare and precious gem, the emerald. Here the emerald is the star of the show, but oh what a wonderful cast it has to support it, in the form of over 2 carats of spectacular old cut diamonds!
These vintage diamond and emerald drop earrings were handcrafted in the 1930s, most likely in England which is where we found them. They boast 26 Old European cut diamonds and two perfect emeralds. Each piece features a cluster motif with a rich, green, emerald-cut emerald at the center. Each emerald measures 6 x 5 x 2.5 mm and weighing approximately .52 carats. Each lively green stone is surrounded by 12 diamonds set in platinum over 18 karat gold, one more sparkling diamond sits at the top of the cluster, adding even more glam and glitz to an already glittering design; the total diamond weight is approximately 2 carats. Together, this pair of earrings weighs 4.8 grams.

Whenever I see a ring like this one, it really gets me to wondering. The stones in this ring are all old European cut diamonds, probably cut around 1880-1910, and yet this ring surely was made in the 1950s or 60s, so how did these diamonds end up here? What is their back story? Were they part of a Belle Époque brooch, links of a Victorian diamond bracelet, drops of an Edwardian necklace, a single fabulous earring whose mate was lost somewhere along the way? I guess in truth neither you nor I will ever truly know where they came from, what their previous life was. All we know for sure is that now they are here, in this fantastic ring, sparkling away as they've done for over a hundred years!
Handcrafted in France, this 18 karat white gold ring features a bedazzling array of diamonds, thirty-one old European cut round diamonds that add up to over 3.5 carats in all. The center stone is about .4 carats, six of the surrounding stones are about .15-.18 carats each and the other twenty-four weigh about .1-.12 carats each. The diamonds form a lovely knot or bow motif and are truly all sparkle, all of the time. This ring would be easy to resize, currently it is a size 4.75, and it weighs 8.3 grams. The ring is marked on the back of the band with the French eagle head mark, assayed in Paris and has also been acid tested to verify that it is indeed, 18 karat gold. The face of this ring measures 19.5 mm from north to south, and 19.5 mm across, it narrows to 2 mm at the back of the band.
Personally, I just adore old cut diamonds, so my heart did a little pitter-patter when I came across this beauty set with all these old cut gems. My own sneaking suspicion is that these diamonds started out life in a brooch and that some inheritee of said brooch decided to have it remade into this much more wearable and super stylie Retro cocktail ring!

Somehow I always feel like Joan Wilder when I wear emeralds. Remember Joan? She was the character played by Kathleen Turner in that classic 80s movie ‘Romancing the Stone’. I feel like maybe when Joan got back from her adventures in the jungle she would have taken some of her book earnings and bought herself some emeralds. Fabulous ones, like this one; just to remind herself of Jack Colton and swinging through the jungle with her arms wrapped tightly around him.
This fantastic ring is French and definitely has that ‘ooh-la-la’ factor. In spades. It’s set with a lozenge cut emerald at its center in the most intriguing shade of deep rainforest green. The stone measures 9 x 6.7 x 3.8 mm and weighs approximately 1.25 carats. It doesn’t stop there, though, as this lively and unusually cut emerald is supported by a cast of 50 diamonds. The diamonds are a mixture of 18 rose cuts and 32 Old European cuts, some of which are Mazarin cuts. The diamond add up to about 2.25 carats total weight and are bright white and very sparkly. The face of this lovely, long ring measures 25.3 mm from north to south and 16 mm across, it sits 6.7 mm off the finger and narrows to 2.2 mm wide at the back of the band. The ring is a size 6.25 and weighs 4.7 grams.
This fantastic ring was hand crafted in France around 1880 and has a owl mark on the back of the band. It has been carefully acid tested and is fully crafted in 18 karat gold.

This one would fit in well amongst the ladies of Downton Abbey. The Edwardian look, the colors of the day, the subtle opulence, all point to this being a piece made for a lady of means.
This French beauty was hand crafted in about 1900. It is set with pink and green rough, polished tourmaline gems and accented with sparkling rose cut diamonds. The star of this show is the large green tourmaline drop at the front of this stunning necklace, a drop which weighs approximately 115 carats. The other four green tourmalines spaced through the necklace weigh about 52 carats in total. The necklace is further set with three natural pink tourmalines, two rough polished gems which weigh about 18 carats and one round polished pink tourmaline bead which has an estimated weight of 3 carats. The necklace is all done in 18 karat gold and the petal design cap of the main gem is silver topped and set with 22 rose cut diamonds which add up to about .28 carats in total. This antique beauty is 28.5 inches long with a 3 inch drop at the front and weighs 51.29 grams. It has been carefully acid tested as 18 karat gold and sterling silver.

You know when you’re walking at twilight and the snow glitters by the light of the moon? Or when you wake up with the morning and you see dust glimmering in the sun’s rays? Or when you’re sitting at the edge of the pier, overlooking the lake, and the water seems to shine on for eternity against the setting sun? Yeah, this ring is kind of like that - but better. It’s a decadent never ending show of sparkle. Honestly, it’s like having your cake and eating it, too.
This phenomenal antique sapphire and diamond ring was handcrafted around 1870. At the center sits a bright blue sapphire, round, faceted, and oh so pretty, set in sterling silver. It measures 7 x 6.65 x 4.5 mm and weighs approximately 1.5 carats. Surrounding this sapphire are 60 diamonds, 30 rose cuts and 30 old European cut stones, all set in sterling silver. The old European cut diamonds weigh approximately 2.1 carats in total. Among the old cuts are a couple of brilliant cut stones that are clearly replacements for stones lost along the way. The rose cuts are patterned between small and larger stones, measuring between .8 – 1.5 mm in diameter. The ring face measures 16 mm north to south and 16 mm across, it sits 8 mm off the finger and narrows to 4.4 mm at the back of the band. An engraved scrolling motif encircles nearly the entire shank which is made in 18 karat gold. This ring weighs 7.2 grams and is a size 4.75 US, it could be re-sized somewhat to suit. There are no marks and it has been acid tested.
The epitome of glamour, right there on your finger, giving the neighbors something to talk about. It’s all in a glance, and this ring will keep them glancing over and over and over.

King Henry V is pretty well known for winning the battle of Agincourt. “Once more unto the breach, Dear Friends”, ring a bell? Well, on one of my many trips to visit my friends the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London, I engaged a beefeater guard in lively discourse. He told me that the Black Prince’s Ruby was really a Spinel (which, of course, I already knew).
“Oh, really,”, I replied, trying to coax more information from him.
“And do you know why it’s set with a ruby?”, now he had me, that I did not know.
The guard proceeded to tell me a story I’d never heard, about how that same King, Henry V, had the spinel drilled through the center so that he could wear it like a bead on a cord, for luck during the fighting in France. He told me of how the stone was lost during the great battle and of how the King sent his entire army back to the battlefield to look for it. It took 3 weeks for them to find it, under a dead French soldier.
This spinel likely never spent 3 weeks under a dead Frenchman, but it has that same rich, dark, look and luster of the famous stone in the Crown Jewels. It is surrounded by a halo of fabulously bright old European cut diamonds which set the spinel to singing with a fiery glow. The rectangular, cushion cut spinel is a natural stone which measures 8.92 x 7.14 x 5.51 mm and weighs approximately 2.78 carats. It is surrounded by a ring of 12 old Mine cut diamonds which are 0.073-0.092 carats each and weigh about .98 carats in total and the shoulders are each set with a single cut diamond of .03 carats.
This ring was hand crafted in about 1880, most likely in Russia. It has hallmarks to the back of the band which are too worn to totally make out, but under a microscope I find them to be closest to Russian marks. Also, the ring tests as 14 karat gold, which is consistent with Russian jewelry at the time. The face of this ring measures 13.9 mm north to south and 6.6 mm wide and it sits 6 mm off the finger. This ring is a size 7.75 and weighs 3.4 grams, it could be resized to suit.
This ring has been appraised and graded by a GIA Graduate Gemologist who specializes in Antique and Estate jewelry, it has a replacement value of $13,500 USD. Please inquire if you’d like a full copy of the appraisal for review.

Was it traditional? Or was it spontaneous? The way he sunk the ring in a glass of pink champagne at the restaurant, where they had their first date. She didn’t see it coming, the flute of bubbly had sat on the table for nearly 20 minutes before she took a sip and realized what was going on. He laughed at her reaction, that grin on her face that grew, how her eyes lit up brighter than the crystal chandelier on the ceiling. When he bent down on one knee and asked if she would marry him, her hands flew to her open jaw, and she squealed in delight as she said yes and kissed his lips. He slipped the ring on her finger and she gasped at the diamonds as they glistened and sparkled.
This breathtaking antique diamond marquis-shaped ring was handcrafted around 1910. Each of the 27 white diamonds are set in platinum, while the shank is made in 14 karat gold. The center diamond is a sight to behold, it’s a cushion cut that totals .5 carats! There are two more larger diamonds, one on top, and one below the center, that total .26 carats together. Every diamond radiates the colors of the rainbow, making your finger the luckiest of them all. The face measures 22 x 18 x 4.7 mm off the finger. This ring is a size 9 and weighs 4.0 grams. It is hallmarked with the gold purity mark, ‘585’.
I swear this ring glitters in the dark.

They called it 'La Belle Époque', translated as ‘the Beautiful Era’, and it's as well they should have. From about 1871 to the beginning of World War I in 1914, peace and prosperity flourished throughout Europe and especially settled in France and England. The arts flourished, money flew, it was truly a golden age. This ring was made then, there, in that Paris of the early 20th century, amidst that optimism, that joie de vivre!
Completely hand crafted by a master of the art, this ring is a modified target type ring, set with row upon alternating row of glittering white diamonds and rich blue sapphires. The 17 diamonds add up to about 1.2 carats in total and the two rings of calibre cut sapphire are about .7 carats total. The ring is 18 karat gold in the back and the top stones are all set in platinum, this kind of 18 karat and platinum construction is very typical of the Belle Époque (which corresponds to the English Edwardian Era), as jewelers didn't really start using all platinum construction until the 1920's (with some exceptions). This ring has a fairly worn hallmark, but it is the eagles head assay mark which tells us that it is French and contains 18k gold. The ring is currently a size 7 and measures 20 mm north to south and 14.5 mm across, it sits 5 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.3 mm at the back of the band. Made in Paris, France around 1910.
This beautiful ring from the beautiful era would make a precious gift for any occasion or a stunning right hand ring that could be worn from blue-jeans to ball gowns!

You found the perfect person (that was the hard part), and you found the perfect dress (that felt impossible, but then you tried on the right one and your heart beat a little faster). You found the perfect venue, the perfect caterer (who owed you their amuse bouche as beautiful as it was delicious), the perfect person to make your invitations with flair and polish. It’s all done, the ducks are all in a row. But do you have the perfect jewelry? Might I present this instant heirloom as all you’ll really need to compliment that perfect dress I mentioned before? Not only can it be your something old on your wedding day, it can be your daughter’s on hers and her daughter after that.
Over 100 carats of absolutely stunning blue moonstones grace this once-in-a-lifetime necklace. The stones go all the way around the neck so that you look gorgeous and glowing from any angle. The necklace itself is 17.5 inches long and the drop is just over two inches in length. In all, this 14 karat gold beauty is set with 60 stones of approximately 103 carats total weight, each stone is bezel set and displays its inner moon to full effect. This necklace is high Edwardian in style and was likely made in about 1910, I’m not sure where as it has no marks, but it might be American or possibly Belgian in origin. The necklace weighs 25.4 grams.
For your most special day and all the days thereafter, you couldn’t chose a more perfect jewel.

Caution: Old Cut diamonds are addictive. Each one is a little bit different from the other, each stone was mapped out in the mind of a master in stone cutting, each one was cut and polished carefully by hand. These stones each have their own character and it gives a ring like this one the overall appearance of a work of art, with the slow, lazy strong flashes of color and light that only old cuts can offer. Even those who don’t know the difference will be able to see right away that these are no ordinary stones, this no ordinary ring.
This vintage ring was hand crafted in 18 karat white gold around 1920. It is set with 18 old European cut diamonds and two brilliant cut diamonds which were added later when the ring was re-sized. Each diamond weighs approximately .2 carats and the total carat weight of this ring is about 3.5 carats. The ring measures 3.9 mm north to south and sits 3 mm off the finger. This ring is a size 9.25 but as it’s been resized up it could probably be resized down. This ring is marked with an owl, the French import mark for a gold fineness of 18 karat minimum, it weighs 4.6 grams.
This gorgeous ring would make an excellent wedding band, or addition to a ring stack. It’s got big, juicy diamonds and a lot of presence.
