His guests were gathered around him in the library, listening to his addicting stories, tales full of wonder. He would tell of long dry African safaris and escaping lionesses. He would tell of riding energetic elephants in the rain in Thailand. She was small enough to hide behind the settee, so she could watch her father speak. She could survey the crowd as they gasped and ooh-ed and ahh-ed. When her father would leave on his long business trips, he would write to her. She would check the mail every morning, looking for the envelope with her name, closed with a giant wax seal made by a carnelian fob, with stories of adventures inside.
This antique Victorian intaglio watch fob was handcrafted in 15 karat gold. It was made in England, circa 1850. The beautiful carnelian seal is beautifully carved with a roaring lion rampant climbing out of a crown which resembles a castle, all the while, the lion is holding a fleur-de-lis. The bright red carnelian measures 16.5 x 14 mm. It weighs 5.1 grams and measures 19 x 16.5 x 22.5 mm.
This breathtaking watch fob is a fabulous conversation piece. It could be the next item in your jewelry box. It is a great size to wear on either a chain or a bracelet.

Okay, so I have to admit that I only just now realized that this fob is really quite gruesome! I was looking at it closely and trying to discover some tidbit of information about the heraldry of its carving and I realized that the sword was quite bumpy. Hmm… ‘a bumpy sword, that’s odd’, I thought and so I got out my good jewelers loupe and turned on the brightest light in the room and took a look. Oh my, those bumps are heads! I never did discover it’s meaning (if you know it, won’t you tell me?), but I admit to loving it just a little bit more for it’s outright message! Off with their heads! Yikes!
This wonderful intaglio carved fob seal is kind of ridiculously fabulous. It has a gorgeous and heavy 18 karat gold case that is at once classic and contemporary, it has that velvety feel that only old gold can achieve (especially 18 karat old gold!). This fob is set with a highly polished, beautifully carved and bezel edged piece of carnelian in a bright orange/red hue. This piece would make a gorgeous pendant on a sturdy gold chain (20 inches or so would be perfect), it would also make a wonderful watch fob, it's original use, if you have a watch that needs one. The fob measures 35 mm from top to bottom and is 17 mm across, the carnelian itself measures 15 mm across, it weighs 12.6 grams. Made in England (perhaps? most likely) around 1850 or perhaps a bit earlier.
Lost in history, bound in myth. That’s what I always think when come across very old things like this fantastic carved intaglio seal. If only it could talk, the tales that it would tell!

This beautiful seal showcases the coat of arms of the Vaughan family of Wales. The family defended from Tudor Trevor, the Earl of Hereford and his wife Howel Dda, the descendant of the King of South Wales and date back to the end of the fist century.
Carved into a smooth and polished eight edged piece of bright orange carnelian, this wonderful seal dates to about the 1840s, it is set within a softly curving mounting of 9 karat gold that’s been acid tested to verify the content. This fob would make an excellent pendant, especially hanging off of a watch chain. It measures 1 1/4 inches long, 1 1/8 inches wide and weighs 12.9 grams.

I usually pass on fobs that are uncarved, as this one is, but I was taken in by this smooth oval of brightly flecked bloodstone and the lovely Maltese cross design on top!
This wonderfully rendered bloodstone fob was hand crafted in Chester, England in 1912 of 9 karat gold kissed with a rosy hue. The top has a beautiful Maltese cross set within arches of gold. This fob would make a wonderful pendant and is of a good size at 30 mm high and 18.6x11.8 mm on the face, the bloodstone itself measures 15.1x10.3 mm. This fob weighs 5.1.

It’s called a wheat sheaf if it’s sitting in a field, a freshly cut bundle of wheat grass drying in the sun. If it’s painted on a shield or embroidered on a doublet or carved into an intaglio seal, then it’s called a Garb. The garb has been used in heraldry for hundreds and hundreds of years. It was originally used by the Earl of Chester and has been identified with that family and it’s offshoots for centuries. It was symbolic of plenty.
This Fob is an excellent smaller size and would make for a great pendant or addition to a bracelet. It is set with a beveled slice of orange carnelian which is carved with a single, lovely sheaf of wheat. The stone is collet set into 9 karat gold, it measures 15 mm x 10 mm across the face and is is 22 mm long. The fob weighs 2.8 grams.
This wonderful intaglio seal dates to about 1820 and was made in England.

The Captains face was shaved clean but his imperial mutton chops waved in the sea breeze as he scanned the horizon, his bold chin was set firm, his eyes narrowed. He pulled on the thick gold chain attached to his vest and removed a red leather case with a gold bale protruding from it’s top. Opening the case, he revealed a large and very precise compass, he removed it and stashed the case back into his pocket, noting the admiring glances aimed his way that always accompanied this move. The beautiful, large, crystal and gold compass had been carefully hand made by the renowned firm of Francis Barker and Son and it had been a gift from his wife, Victoria. It was she and their two sons who were his true pride and joy, but this compass was a close fourth and it always made him think of her and smile. Her joy on that Christmas morning when he had unwrapped it was a large part of the reason that he cherished it so dearly.
This fantastic gold compass was so amazing that I snapped it up instantly. Nestled into its original fitted box, the large compass is hand crafted in rock crystal and 9 karat gold with a fantastic large needle and hand painted dial with degrees of azimuth. The compass’s bale protrudes from the case so that it could be worn whilst still being protected by the hand crafted leather case, this has kept it in pristine condition for it’s over 150 years of life.
Hand crafted by the firm of Francis Barker and Son, Limited, a company known more for making compasses than for making jewelry, it is fully hallmarked with the marks for 9 karat gold, the leopard head showing that it was made in London, England and the date code d for 1859. This wonderful pendant measures 58.1 mm north to south and 38.9 mm across when outside of it’s case and weighs 23.8 grams (or 37.4 grams inside the case).
The Victorians prized compasses as both a practical tool and a love token, so that you could always find your way back to the one you love, but this wonderful compass is much a tool as it is a wearable piece of art. It would look fabulous hanging around your neck from a heavy gold watch chain as we’ve shown it here.

She wore it on a chain around her neck, a gift from her father. She remembered how when she was young, he would hang this charm from the chain of his pocket watch, always checking the time, never wanting to be late, but not too early either. He would tuck it into the breast pocket of his jacket for close keeping, making sure to never stick a pen in there for fear of it exploding over his precious trinkets. He was the gentlemanly type, opening the door for his wife, sharing his umbrella with strangers, lending his suit jacket to her when she was cold.
This antique Victorian niello locket fob was handcrafted in England around 1880. The round locket opens to reveal two frames inside, both lined in blue. This amazing watch fob measures 158.4 x 24.6 mm. It was made in silver and niello and has been acid tested. This locket fob measures six inches in length and weighs 31.9 grams.
