Antique 18k Round Frame Locket with Siblings Portrait
Their little hands, their small features and huge, curious eyes. She knew, of course, that they would grow and change, but here, in this precious pendant of gold, she could keep them as they were when they were small. For they would always be her babies.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, people wore lockets to carry anything from a piece of fabric soaked in perfume to ashes of a deceased loved-one, from a diminutive piece of art to a lock of a child’s hair, and, of course, portraits! Lockets and photo pendants were a way to keep a reminder of love, of joy, always present. These days, I always experience a tenderness of heart when I see someone with a locket around their neck. I wonder who is is that makes that person’s heart swell, or what word of affirmation or piece of art engages their mind. This gorgeous 18k Round Frame Locket can house any picture you desire, or it can keep these sweet siblings preserved and unchanged by history. Measuring 33.7 mm high, including the bale, by 26 mm wide, and with a depth of 4.5 mm and weight of 4.6 grams, it is a very wearable size; not overpowering but a good presence. It was made around 1910 in France and bears the mark of an eagle’s head.
Such a sweet way to keep a person—or art, or a word affirmation—always with you, wreathed in gold.
