Antique Mens Sword and Shield Brooch Pin Dated 1899

Men have always rocked a brooch, early on it was simple circle with a pin to hold closed a cloak or other piece of clothing, more recently men have been turning up everywhere in everything from Scottish pebble brooches to diamond laden stars and critters.

This brooch was most likely originally made for a man. It features a golden sword which is favored with a shield and flowers. This particular brooch was hand crafted in Chester, England in 1899. It measures 60.7 mm across and 14.7 mm top to bottom, it weighs 3.3 grams. This brooch was made in 9 karat gold and is marked with full English hallmarks, the City Arms for Chester, the Q letter date and the makers mark of “H&N”. The brooch is further marked for 9 karat gold with ‘9’ and ‘.375’.
