Antique 18k Gold French Enamel Scene Brooch Masterwork Diamond Frame

Other times a jewel is simply a work of art in miniature. I love both kinds, and this brooch is an exquisite example of a piece that was clearly made as art for art’s sake.
The detail in this miniature enamel painting is worthy of a giant canvas done in oils. It showcases a waterfall so realistic that you can almost hear the roar and see the foam, as a river flows through forests of pines and deciduous trees; behind them a setting sun lights the tops of snow capped mountains. The golden disk upon which this painting was made was machine turned before being enameled to give a fine radiating background pattern that creates a fabulous golden sky and creates movement throughout the piece. This stunning enamel painting is set into a gold frame that’s edged in silver set rose cut diamonds.
This brooch measures 31 mm in diameter and is set with 12 3 mm rose cut diamonds. It is marked on the pin stem with the French assay mark of the eagles head which indicates a minimum gold fineness of 18 karat. The C clap has a safety to keep this treasure safe. Hand crafted in France in about 1840-50, this brooch weighs 10.2 grams.
