They met in the tea room, in the central court at Claridge’s. His suit was beautifully cut, perfectly tailored, and showcased his broad shoulders. She found the line of his back more appealing than she knew she should. She was just coming out of mourning for her beloved Papa, so she wore black silk with purple velvet, her black silk and diamond pendant hung above a perfect décolletage. He found his eyes going again and again to the swell of her breasts, and thanked heaven she had worn the diamonds to give him an excuse for his roving eye. He commented on it’s dazzling loveliness. The light from the terraces streamed in the window and hit her jewels, sending rainbows around the room. He was momentarily blinded by her beauty, and knew he wanted to look upon her every day for the rest of his life.

This fabulous hand crafted jewel can be worn as either a brooch or a pendant. The diamond set bow at the top slides off to wear it as a brooch or can be attached with the platinum chain as a beautiful necklace. This Edwardian piece was made in 18 karat gold with platinum settings on the front, it is set with .6 carats in full cut old European cut diamonds and an additional 51 rose cut diamonds, and accented with 9 creamy white pearls. The back is closed in with a piece of stiff black silk, this could be removed, but I didn’t want to mess with it too much, as I’m sure it’s been there a very long time, indeed. I purchased this lovely piece in what well may be it’s original fitted box., the box has a little place to hide the chain and is quite charming on it’s own. The pendant measures 32.5 mm from the top of the bow and 28.6 mm across at the widest point. It is unmarked, but tests as platinum and 18 karat gold. I purchased this in London and suspect it to be English in origin, dating to about 1900-05, during the Garland Era. The platinum chain is 18 inches long. Weighs 19.7 grams.
