Some Victorian Scottish jewels whisper of mist and heather; this one feels carved from the Highlands themselves. Three interlocking circles represent a simple, sculptural, almost startlingly modern love knot. The rings are inlaid with polished Aberdeen granite, its salt-and-pepper flecks echoing the rugged coastline and ancient stonework of the city where it was made. The form is mesmerizing: a tangle of rings that seems to move even when still, like a knot with no beginning and no end. It is at once mathematical, mystical, and unmistakably Scottish.
Made around 1870 by the renowned Aberdeen firm M. Rettie & Sons, this brooch is crafted in sterling silver and measures 48 mm north to south, 46.5 mm across, and 3.5 mm deep. It weighs 18.97 grams. The reverse is stamped ABERDEEN and M. RETTIE & SONS. The brooch retains its original pin and simple C-catch.
Striking, sculptural, and wonderfully wearable, this piece bridges Victorian sentiment with a surprisingly contemporary aesthetic. It looks as perfect on a wool coat today as it might have on a tartan shawl 150 years ago, pure Highlands magic in a modern silhouette.
