There is something wonderfully eccentric about this little fellow. A beautifully modeled dog’s head, complete with floppy ears and collar which is backed by a warm russet disc of striped agate. Above sits the original watch key, turning an everyday Victorian necessity into a tiny piece of sculpture. He is charming from every angle, the sort of Victorian object that began life with a perfectly practical purpose and somehow ended up being irresistible jewelry.

Made in about 1890, this Victorian watch key is crafted in silver and hallmarked “800.” Behind the dog’s collar is a round banded agate measuring 11.5 millimeters across, richly colored in burnt orange with fine natural pale banding. The piece measures 27 millimeters high, 23.5 millimeters across, and 13.5 millimeters deep. It weighs 10 grams. The original watch key fitting remains at the top, along with loops for attaching the piece to a chain or watch chain. Pendant only; chain not included.

Once a useful little object carried at the end of a watch chain, he has found an even better second life as a pendant. And frankly, he looks rather pleased about it.
