There is something almost astonishing about wearing a jewel that predates the Roman Empire itself, a small glowing fragment of the Etruscan world, carved nearly twenty-eight centuries ago, yet still so alive in the hand. The carnelian holds its ancient warmth like a captured sunrise, and inside it unfolds a scene that speaks in the language of a vanished culture: a crow perched serenely on the back of an ox. To the Etruscans, birds were not merely birds, they were messengers between worlds, interpreters of the divine, carriers of wisdom. The ox, in turn, symbolized strength, endurance, and the grounded, fertile life of the earth. Together they formed a powerful motif: strength guided by wisdom, the mortal world led by insight from above. You can almost picture the artisan who carved it, bending over his work in an 8th- or 7th-century BCE workshop, shaping a symbol meant to protect, to guide, to speak. And then, as if answering across time, the stone was reborn in the 1960s into a molten-textured gold ring, creating a breathtaking fusion of ancient mysticism and modern design.

The ancient Etruscan carnelian intaglio measures 14 x 11 x 3 mm and is set into an 18 karat gold ring most likely made in the 1960s. The ring is marked “750” for gold purity and bears the maker’s mark “HP.” It measures 13.1 mm north to south and 17 mm across, rising 3.4 mm off the finger. It is a size 6.75 and weighs 6.9 grams. The textured gold mount protects the ancient stone while giving the piece its striking, modern silhouette.

Wear it when you want jewelry that feels like an artifact — something that doesn’t just adorn but speaks. This ring carries the gravity and mystery of an ancient civilization paired with the confidence of mid-century design, brought together into a piece meant for someone who appreciates beauty that spans millennia.
