There is a particular kind of magic to Art Nouveau enamel, and this pendant captures it perfectly. Shaped like a softly rounded flower, its surface glows with luminous blue enamel that fades gently into lavender tones, worked in a subtly hammered texture that catches the light with every movement. Crafted by the esteemed maker James Fenton; the design feels both organic and architectural, a quiet echo of the Arts and Crafts influence that lingered into the Edwardian years. A single natural pearl drop hangs beneath, adding a tender finishing note, like a pause at the end of a beautifully written sentence.
Handcrafted in Birmingham in 1909, this silver pendant was made by James Fenton and is fully hallmarked with the anchor for Birmingham, the lion passant, the date letter “k” for 1909, and the maker’s mark “J.F.” The pendant measures 39 mm north to south, 23.5 millimeters across, and 3 mm deep, and weighs 6.9 grams. The pearl drop measures approximately 6 x 3 mm. The pendant is suspended from a fine silver chain measuring 15.5 inches in length, which is included.
This is the sort of jewel that feels quietly intimate, meant to rest at the hollow of the throat and be discovered rather than announced. Elegant without pretense, and rich with Edwardian artistry, it is a piece that slips easily into modern life while carrying the unmistakable romance of its past. A small treasure, but one with a remarkably long memory.
