Victorian Silver Mariners Link Collar Anchor Link Chain

$ 950.00

This link is called a Mariners link or Anchor link and it is my all time favorite when it comes to links (which if you know me is saying something!). Inspired by the link that was used to hold an anchor on a ship, the design of which was created to provide maximum strength and flexibility and absorb any stress from wind or waves acting on the ship above. I feel like this link is emblematic of what we need more of, strength, flexibility and the ability to weather life’s storms.

Sailors started to wear this style of chain as early as the Georgian era, but this wonderful Victorian example was hand crafted in about 1880. Surprisingly light in weight and velvety in feel, these links are not cast (as they would be today), but rather were hand formed using only 19.4 grams of sterling silver. This beautiful collar is 18 inches long and has a large C clasp that can be used to hold a locket or pendant, as it would have been worn when this necklace premiered. The anchor links are 11 mm long and 8 mm wide. This necklace is unmarked but tests as sterling silver.
