In an era when evening dress was a matter of ceremony, a gentleman’s cufflinks spoke volumes. These brilliant crystal ovals, their facets catching the light with every movement, would have gleamed at dinners, in theaters, or across the card table. Their silver edges are finely engraved, a subtle nod to refinement, while the weight of the links carries the authority of quality. To open the case today, lined with silk and stamped E.W. Payne, Bromley, is to step directly back into Edwardian elegance.
Handcrafted around 1910, this pair of double-ended cufflinks is set with four crystals, each measuring 16 x 12 x 7.5 mm. The ovals are bezel-set in engraved silver, with chain connectors measuring 35 mm top to bottom. Each link is 17.6 mm high by 13.4 mm wide and 10.8 mm deep; together the links weigh 10.5 grams, while the case and cufflinks together weigh 47.8 grams. The original case bears the printed retailer’s mark: E.W. Payne (Bromley) Ltd, High Street Bromley, Kent.
A classic accessory of distinction, they remain as striking today as they were more than a century ago, an elegant reminder that true style never fades.
