The elegance of this bangle lies not only in its grand proportions, but in the lavish detail engraved across every surface, a wearable piece of 19th-century French artistry. The front is graced with a medallion of delicate flowers rendered in rose gold, their leaves picked out in green gold, framed by ornate scrolls that suggest architectural tracery or the curling motifs of a romantic garden gate. Light dances across the hand-engraved crosshatching and soft matte ground, while polished high points gleam like well-worn silver.
Marked with the French weevil hallmark, used between 1864 and 1893 for imported silver, this late Victorian bracelet is most likely actually a sterling silver bangle made in England, but it has been marked as '800' due to the minimum fineness requirements in France. The maker’s mark "A&JZ" is struck inside. It weighs 27 grams and closes securely with a tongue-and-groove clasp and original safety chain.
Decidedly bold on the wrist yet romantic in detail, this piece holds its own among the finest of the period. It’s a striking choice for anyone who collects French silverwork or simply loves the beauty of engraved metal at its most ornate.
