An anchor has always carried more than its weight in meaning, steadfastness, safe harbor, devotion held fast against rough seas. In this late Victorian example, that symbolism is rendered with unmistakable Scottish character. The form is bold yet balanced, wrapped in a twisted silver rope that feels both nautical and decorative, while pale granite panels lend a cool, silvery-blue contrast that catches the light with quiet restraint. It is a brooch that feels purposeful, as though it once belonged to someone who understood both the romance and the reality of the sea.

Crafted in Scotland around 1890, this brooch is made of engraved silver set with traditional Scottish granite. It measures approximately 49.3 mm north to south, 29.8 mm across, and 10.7 mm in depth, and weighs 6.36 grams. The surface is finely engraved, enhancing the sculptural lines of the anchor, and the rope motif is worked in relief around the arms and shank. The reverse is fitted with a classic Victorian pin and C-clasp. There are no hallmarks present, which is typical for much Scottish silver of this period.

Both symbolic and striking, this anchor brooch wears beautifully on a lapel, knit, or coat collar, adding a note of maritime romance and Highland craftsmanship. It feels like a personal token rather than a purely decorative jewel, something chosen for what it stood for as much as how it looked.
