Love, flowers and the industrious little bee make a wonderfully intimate combination, the sort of tiny visual message that Georgian jewelry did so beautifully. Even when the seal is hidden below, the sculptural gold mount makes this a fabulous little jewel from every direction.

Handcrafted in about 1800, this Georgian seal fob is made in 9 karat gold and set with an oval orange carnelian intaglio engraved with a bee among flowers and the word “L’AMOUR,” French for “love.” The elaborate openwork mount rises above the stone in scrolling foliate forms to its bale. The fob measures 24.5 millimeters high by 18.8 millimeters across by 22 millimeters deep and weighs 6.5 grams. It is unmarked but tested as 9 karat gold. The chain shown in photographs is not included.
