Neoclassical French Enamel Earrings with Portrait Miniatures in 18k Gold
This pair of Neoclassical gold earrings echos the grandeur of luxury during the mid-1800s. Crafted with meticulous artistry, these earrings feature enameled miniatures depicting classically styled figures, a testament to the revival styles sweeping Europe and echoing ancient styles. The gleaming gold setting exudes sophistication, while the delicately enameled portraits add an aristocratic charm. Each miniature captures the essence of classical beauty, portraying figures reminiscent of ancient Grecian ideals.
Beautifully hand crafted in about 1840, this pair are likely French in origin and are done in 18 karat gold. I think these started out as back to fronts and have been changed over to straight wires for ease of wear, the hallmarks likely were lost to the change. The portraits are enamel on ceramic and the earrings measure 33.5 mm from the top of the wire to the bottom of the plaque and 19.7 mm across at the widest point, together they weigh 3.5 grams.
These earrings transcend mere adornment, serving as wearable tributes to the timeless allure of classical aesthetics, encapsulating an era that revered grace and poise in every meticulously crafted detail.
