She wore rubies. Not diamonds, no nothing as pedestrian as that. Not sapphires, for though they had appeal she knew in her heart of hearts that she was a rare gem indeed and only the most rare and sought after was good enough for her. So, she sought out that most elusive castle in the air, the pure and untreated ruby, a stone that was pulled from the ground with this color, already so fiery it seemed hot to the touch. This was her ring.
Ruby rings this exceptional do not cross my path (or anyone else's for that matter) every day, so when I had this one in my hand and it was hit by the early morning light through the conservatory roof, well, I about fell out of my chair! Five all natural, unheated and untreated amazing rubies are set into a traditional five stone ring studded with dutch rose cut diamonds. This style of ring with it’s wonderful richly carved sides and shoulders was very popular in the late Victorian era. These stones are truly stunning, they are a true bright red in color, rich and deep with just a kiss of pink.
The five stones in this ring add up to 2.7 carats in total weight and are accented by 8 dutch rose cut diamonds. The ring was hand crafted in 18 karat gold in the late Victorian Era, most likely in England which is where I purchased it. This ring is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested, it is a size 6.5 and weighs 3.7 grams. This ring comes with a certificate on the stones, they are unheated Mozambique (Thailand) rubies. It also comes with an appraisal from an independent Graduate Gemologist stating a replacement value of $22,000.
