There is a wonderful confidence in a ring like this; diamonds gathered shoulder to shoulder in a glittering row, each catching the light and sending it dancing to the next. The effect is rich and luminous, a continuous ribbon of sparkle across the finger. Rings like this, often called boat or navette rings, were beloved during the Victorian era for their elegant silhouette and dazzling spread of diamonds across the hand. Pieces like this were made to celebrate life’s brightest moments, their glow meant to be seen across candlelit rooms and reflected in admiring glances.

Handcrafted in England in 1896, this antique Victorian diamond ring is made in 18 karat gold and fully hallmarked with the crown, “18ct,” the Birmingham anchor, and the date letter “w” for 1896. The ring is set with thirteen diamonds totaling approximately 1.36 carats, including a center diamond measuring 4.5 x 4.5 x 3.1 millimeters (about .40 carats), two diamonds measuring 4 x 4 x 2.5 mm (about .50 carats total), and two diamonds measuring 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.4 mm (about .38 carats total). These are accented by eight rose-cut diamonds measuring about 1 mm each, adding delicate flashes of light between the larger stones. The ring measures approximately 5.3 mm north to south across the face, 19 mm across the top of the navette-shaped setting, and stands about 4.9 mm off the finger. The band measures about 2 mm wide. It weighs 4.02 grams and is currently a US size 4.

What makes this Victorian diamond ring especially captivating is its beautifully worked gallery, where graceful scrolls support the diamonds from beneath, an elegant detail typical of fine nineteenth-century craftsmanship. With its generous spread of antique diamonds and timeless form, this ring feels both delicate and dazzling at once, the sort of jewel that instantly feels like a treasure the moment it slips onto the hand.
