Antique Art Nouveau Silver Enamel Locket Woman Motif
With her long, flowing black locks and her sleepy pale golden eyes, this beautiful lady gazes softly into the distance. At first I thought that she was a huntress holding her bow, but I’m not sure now, I think that perhaps what she is holding is actually a musical instrument, perhaps a Lyre or a Lute?
The locket is beautifully hand crafted in the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style. The front showcase a lovely hand painted enamel portrait with a glowing sunset like background. The locket is beautifully rough, I believe it was done by the famed artist firm of Meyle and Mayer of Pforzheim, Germany, in about 1910. The silver forms a scrolling frame with a flower at the bottom, the locket slides open to reveal a beveled mirror in a frame. This locket measures 44 mm north to south and 33.4 mm across, it’s 4.3 mm thick and weighs 17.9 grams. It has an 800 mark for the silver and makers mark on the front.
This wonderful locket is sure to be a conversation starter with it’s beguiling charm!
