The Lavalier was (and still is) a classic pendant shape, it was thought to have started with the Duchesse de La Vallière, a mistress of Louis XIV in the 1660s, but this traditional Y shape of pendant is so flattering to the female form that it quickly became popular and remains so to this day.
Here is a rather iconic Art Nouveau version of the iconic Lavalier, with its classic Art Nouveau lines, this beautiful piece is set with rich, dark amethysts. The pendant was hand crafted in 9 karat gold in about 1900 in England, it is marked to the reverse with ‘9ct’. This beauty measures 42 mm long including the bale and 28.6 mm across, it weighs 3.0 grams.
