"Chers Souvenirs" Antique Silver Slide Pendant

They were known in the town as The Three Irish Beauties, but caring not for beauty, they knew themselves as three wild hearts entwined in friendship. The girls were inseparable when they were young: cartwheeling in the sun, singing silly rhymes, dreaming grand futures for each other. Yet a day would come when life would take them on different journeys. How best to remember each other than this sentimental, yet whimsical, medallion chosen with care from the shop in the city, with sliding silver plates on which to engrave words of blessing and friendship.
Well, one could make up any number of romantic stories to attach to this charming silver prayer pendant! Made of five silver rectangular plates that slide open, fan-like, to reveal heartfelt inscriptions. The front plate reads “CHERS SOUVENIRS” and is festooned with a floral design and a green shamrock. The next three plates are inscribed in beautiful handwriting: “Where’er thou are blessings be shed upon thine inmost heart. Nora.”; “Little Mary Beatrice swears eternal friendship to Agnes Sybil.”; and “Help yoursel’ and dinna be blate. Beatrice.” The fifth plate is blank except for the floral design around the edges. This curious pendant is of unknown origin. It weighs.8.2 grams and measures 32mm long, 17.5mm wide (closed), and 4.7mm thick. This beauty dates to about 1880.
