Like fire trapped under water, the central opal in this richly colored band glows with flickers of orange, turquoise, violet, and gold, its play-of-color shifting with every movement of the hand. Handcrafted in England in 1885, this Victorian ring is made in 18 karat gold and fully hallmarked with the crown, “18”, Chester town mark, and the letter “B” for 1885. It is set with three natural opals totaling approximately 0.41 carats: the central oval opal measures 6.3 x 4.3 x 2.5 mm, and the two round side stones measure 3.5 x 3.5 x 1.3 mm each. The face of the ring measures 7 mm north to south and 18 mm across, and it rises 3.5 mm off the finger. The band is 2.7 mm wide at the base and the ring weighs 4.3 grams. It is currently a US size 7.75.
