There’s something irresistibly theatrical about a ring like this; its elongated marquise shape calls to mind the glamour of Belle Époque soirées and candlelit conversations behind velvet drapes. At its heart glows a richly hued, oval-cut amethyst, its regal purple framed in a sparkling halo of antique rose-cut diamonds, each one set in silver with that moody glint only old stones possess. The contrast of gold and silver, color and sparkle, is as refined as it is dramatic.

Handmade around 1900, this ring is crafted in 15 karat gold with a silver setting to enhance the brilliance of the 38 antique diamonds. The central amethyst measures approximately 1.34 carats and is surrounded by 36 1 mm diamonds and 2 slightly larger 1.5 mm stones. The face of the ring measures 24.5 mm north to south, 11.4 mm across, and rises 4 mm off the finger. The band is 2.1 mm wide at the back and the ring is currently a US size 7.5. There are no visible hallmarks, but the piece has been carefully tested.
