Antique Victorian Silver Heraldic Locket Pendant, Birmingham 1894

$ 800.00

There’s a certain resolve in this piece; clean-lined and unapologetically solid, it once hung from the neck or watch chain of someone proud enough to wear their family motto close to heart. It opens to reveal the fabric interiors, red as wax seals and equally secretive, ready to hold a memory, a miniature, or a memento worth protecting.

Engraved with a lion crest and the Latin phrase “Confido Non Confundar” ("I am confident, not confounded"), this sterling silver locket speaks of legacy, certainty, and perhaps a quiet defiance. It is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, England with the lion passant, anchor, and date letter “n” for 1894. The locket measures 58 mm north to south, 33 mm across, and 9.3 mm thick, and weighs a substantial 37 grams. The maker’s mark is partially visible: “J.C & S,” the final “S” slightly rubbed. One interior lens remains intact, while the second side holds the textured red fabric alone.

More than just a container, this is a vessel of confidence, meant to hold what matters and worn by someone who understood the strength of quiet certainty.
