Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757–1806), was a prominent and influential figure in late 18th-century British society. Renowned for her beauty, intellect, and political acumen, she played a significant role in both the political and social spheres of her time. Born into the aristocratic Spencer family, Georgiana married William Cavendish, the 5th Duke of Devonshire, at the age of 17. The marriage was strategic, aimed at solidifying political alliances and increasing the family's wealth and power. Despite their marriage producing three children, the couple notoriously had a third person in their marrige, one Lady Elizabeth Foster, who lived in a likely polyamorous relationship with the Duke and Duchess and bore the former two children.

Georgiana quickly became a celebrated figure in London society, known for her lavish parties, wit, and charm. She was a trendsetter in fashion, setting the style of the day with her elaborate gowns and extravagant hairstyles. Her social gatherings were attended by influential politicians, intellectuals, and artists, cementing her reputation as one of the leading hostesses of her time. She used her wit, charm, and connections to rally support for Whig candidates and causes. Georgiana's influence extended beyond the drawing rooms of London, and her political maneuvering played a role in shaping the political landscape of the late 18th century.

This exquisite 15 karat Georgian miniature portrait of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, is suspended within a heart-shaped drop pendant. It is adorned with 61 resplendent rose-cut diamonds which are set in silver. This exact pendant can be found in Dawes and Colings book "Georgian Jewellery".

Her life has been the subject of numerous books, films, and television series, including the 2008 film "The Duchess," starring Keira Knightley. Her legacy as a fashion icon, political activist, and society hostess endures, making her a fascinating and enigmatic figure of her time.
