Lot number 9042 at Bonham’s was the most spectacular pallasitic meteorite that’s ever been found. The rock, which weighed over 925 pounds, was over 4.5 billion years old, and is believed to have been created during the formation of the solar system. That it survived so intact for so long would have been rare enough, but this particular meteor is comprised of about one half nickel-iron and one half peridot. The fantastic gem-quality olivine glows with a brilliant fire when slices of this meteorite are held up to the light.
This particular peridot most likely does not come from a meteorite, it’s far more likely to have been mined from our own home planet, even so, it is surely an ancient thing. Created in the Earths mantle over 50 miles underground, peridot is a gem that is only brought close enough to the surface to be mined by great volcanic eruptions or mountain building and erosion. This marvelous example has a fantastically vivid green color that is neither bland nor cloying as some peridot is want to be; it measures 8 mm across and weighs approximately 2 carats. The stone is cut into a fiery round faceted gem and mounted in 18 karat gold with a halo of 12 diamonds to provide some glittering back up, ice to the peridots' fire, if you will. Each side of the ring is set with an additional diamond and the ring has a wonderful stylize acanthus leaf motif on the shoulders. The diamonds are all Old European cuts and weigh about 1 carat in total. This size 7 ring has two gold balls inside the shank, they are there to keep it from rolling and are quite comfortable to wear, but they can also easily be removed. This would not be a difficult ring to resize. It is marked ’18’ inside the band for 18 karat gold, and has been acid tested to verify. It weighs 5.8 grams.
This fantastic ring was most likely made in England, which is where I purchased it, around 1915. It would make a stunning and unusual engagement rings. Fabulous peridots like this are as rare and as beautiful as the one you love. Peridot is also the birthstone for August.

My, oh my, what a glistening ring! Dearly did I want to hold on to this piece-the way the sun lights every stone with a spectrum of color is everlastingly mesmerizing, even as the sun drops fully into the horizon, the diamonds sing. I cannot help but stare. As charmed as I am with this ring, sharing is more my style.
This handcrafted Victorian ring was created in England. This 18k gold ring holds a total of nine diamonds. In the center is an old European cut round diamond which weighs about .4 carats. On each side of the center diamond there is a pear shaped old cut diamond, each weighing about .3 carats for a total diamond weight in this ring of just about 1 carat. Camouflaged on the edges and sides of the three central stones are six tiny yet glimmering rose cut diamonds, four are 1 mm in diameter and two are 1.3 mm in diameter. The face of this ring measures 5.9 from north to south and 17.1 mm from east to west, it sits 4.5 mm off the finger and narrows to 1.8 mm wide at the back of the band. This sparkler is unmarked but has been acid tested to verify the gold content.
Personally, I'd recommend this transfixing shimmery diamond piece as the perfect engagement ring. I'd say yes! Already engaged? Consider it an anniversary gift, or just a beautiful way to say, 'I love you.' (Even if you’re saying it to yourself!).
