Victorian Almandine Garnet Pearl Ring Gold

I was visiting my parents for the weekend and running late to meet up with old friends. I realized with horror that I’d forgotten any and all accessories, including an extra pair of shoes. So, I went into my mother’s room and rummaged through the closet, finding the perfect pair of black pumps for the occasion. That’s when I stumbled across my mother’s jewelry box. When I opened it a soft lullaby began to play. On top of a pile of silver chains and woven bracelets was a ring just like this one, of gold, garnet, and pearl. I slipped it on and admired it for far too long before running out the door. I got so many compliments that I determined to find more rings just like it.

This antique Victorian garnet and pearl gold ring was handcrafted in Birmingham, England in 1877. There are three wonderfully colored oval-cut garnet stones patterned among four creamy white pearls, all set in 15 karat gold. The garnets total approximately 1.58 carats with the center stone weighing approximately .73 carats by itself. Each of the pearls measure around 2.6 mm in diameter. This ring is a size 9.5 and it weighs 2.6 grams. It bears the date letter mark, “c” for 1877, the crown mark for England, and the gold purity mark, “15”. It’s engraved with a scrolling motif all around the shank, adding a regal detail to this gorgeous piece.

I know that I insist many of these pieces can be dressed up or dressed down, but that’s because it’s true. For a holiday party or brunch with friends, this ring will fit in perfectly.
