Vintage Welsh Gold Cross Pendant 9k Hallmarked 1997

Long the metal of Kings and Queens, rare Welsh gold was mined from the Clogau St. David’s mine in Bontddu. It is without a doubt one of the rarest, most expensive and most sought-after golds in the world. It hasn’t been mined for many years and as the supply is dwindling, the jewelry that is made from it is mixed with regular gold to allow for still a few more years of use. This cross is the Welsh Tree of Life pattern, the cross is of yellow gold and the pattern of the front is a rosy bit of Welsh gold.

This absolutely beautiful 9 karat gold cross with its warm burnished gold is set with vines and heart-shaped leaves that speak of a love that’s constantly growing, changing, and reaching toward the sun. It is reminiscent of the Welsh Celtic Claddagh design, which signifies eternal love. This wonderful cross bears five hallmarks: a Welsh Dragon mark which signifies that it contains Welsh gold, a Crown for England, ‘.375’ for the 9 karat gold content and the x for the year 1997. The face of this cross measures 43.4 mm north to south and 23.6 mm across, it is 3.8 mm thick, it weighs 3.8 grams.

This life is a wild garden. How lucky are those who grow, change, and reach for the sun, together, in the Grace of God.
