Antique Bloodstone Intaglio Ring 18k Gold

$ 1,250.00

Lost in history, bound in myth. That’s what I always think when come across very old things like this fantastic carved bloodstone intaglio seal. It makes me a little bit melancholy to think of what stories they could tell that I will never know! Then again, you might have noticed that I’m never adverse to making up their stories for myself!

This one features a fantastically carved coat of arms, handcrafted in a smooth mount of 18 karat gold. The oval bloodstone is carved with a shield of wheat of clover topped by a helmet with arrows. The ring is a size 6.75 US and measures 16 mm north to south and 15 mm across, it sits 4 mm off the finger. Made around 1850, the carving may pre-date the ring somewhat. The gold is marked ‘750’ for 18 karat gold and it is inscribed with initials on the back of ‘JVVS’ (perhaps, they’re a bit hard to make out). The ring weighs 6.8 grams.

This ring was most likely originally made for a man, but would be equally fabulous on a woman.
