Early Victorian Bloodstone Fob Pendant 15k Gold 'The Flame of Glory'
‘Fax Mentis Incendium Glorie’ translates from Latin as ‘The Flame of (or passion for) Glory is the Flame of the Mind’. It shows a giant torch and the inscription is carved into a garter around the edge.
This beautifully repoussed golden fob was hand crafted in 15 karat gold in about 1850 in England. It is set with a round intaglioed bloodstone which measures 10x10 mm. The pendant is 24 mm from top to bottom and 11.6 mm wide at the widest point. The fob is unmarked but has been carefully acid tested to verify the gold content, it weighs 5 grams.
A scholarly fob if ever there was one!
