This is the sort of ring that rewards a closer look. At first glance, it reads as a quiet Victorian band, warm with age and softened by time. Handcrafted in England in 1892, this ring is made of 15 karat gold and is fully hallmarked for Chester, with the town mark, “15” and “.625” gold fineness marks, and the date letter “I.” It is set with eleven stones in total: eight closed-back rubies measuring approximately 1.5 mm each, and three closed-back diamonds measuring about 1.7 mm each. The ring measures approximately 9.2 mm north to south, 19 mm across the finger, sits about 2.7 mm off the finger, and narrows to a band width of 2.2 mm at the back. It weighs 2.54 grams and is a US size 8.75.
