A map of the British Empire done in 1890 might reveal a few clues as to why the Brit's were so enamored with Revival Styles. Spread out across the globe, they were digging up bits of old civilizations in a myriad of places. Renaissance Revival, Egyptian Revival, and, as with these earrings, Etruscan Revival, were all popular motifs in Victorian times.
Reaching it's peak in the 1870's and 1880's, and characterized by the use of twisted wire work and granulation, Etruscan Revival jewels have an aesthetic appeal that lives on even today. Made around 1880, this finely detailed example comes in the form of a bar brooch that features a lucky clover set with lovely blue hued opals with lively color play. The body of the brooch features all the hallmarks of the Etruscan Revival style, as well as the hallmark for 15 karat gold. It weighs 2.9 grams, and measure 11.1 mm x 43.3 mm x 1.1 mm.
A perfect accessory for any outfit, this iconic Etruscan Revival brooch is versatile enough to wear on the strap of a one-shouldered dress, hold a wonderful scarf in the perfect position, on a sweater, a blazer, even a hat. Admittedly, I am a bit of an addict, but I can’t tell you how many time I’ve been delighted to find the perfect brooch in my jewelry box. For that bit of extra luck or just some added panache to any outfit, you should try having this one in yours, too!
