Antique Siberian Amethyst Diamond Cluster Ring 14k Gold

Long before Amethyst were mined in South America, they were mined in the long narrow spine of western Russian which forms the Ural Mountains of Siberia. This dividing line between Europe and Asia contains some of the richest and most saturated violet stones in the world. Worn by Kings and Queens, including Cleopatra herself, these gems were once more valuable and more precious than rubies, emeralds and sapphires, comparable only to diamonds in rarity and worth. Purple was one of the hardest dyes to make and one of the most difficult to find in nature and thus they were worn most often by Royals and Religious hierarchy.

This fantastic ring is set with the creme-de-la-creme of Amethyst, a 10.99 carat oval faceted gem of deep violet with flashes of red, a clean stone that makes you understand why this gem was so coveted for millennia. Surrounding this brilliant stone are 16 Old European Mine Cut natural diamonds with weighs between .11 and .15 carats which add up to about 2.02 carats in total and are G-I color and VS2-I1 clarity. This ring was hand crafted in Russia of 14 karat gold in about 1900 and bears later import marks.

This is a large and impressive ring which measures 21.8 mm north to south and 20.6 mm across, it sits 11.2 mm off the finger and narrows to 2.3 mm wide at the back of the band. The ring is a size 8.25 but could be re-sized to suit, it weighs 7.8 grams.
