A century ago, this ring was already a promise in blue and white, the velvety depth of sapphire paired with the quiet fire of diamonds. Its five stones rest in a graceful carved setting, the scalloped edges lending softness to the boldness of color. Handcrafted in 18 karat gold and fully hallmarked for Birmingham in 1917, the ring carries the crown, “18,” the anchor town mark, the date letter “S,” and the maker’s mark “H.W. Ld.” It is set with three sapphires of approximately 0.27 carats in total, including a central stone measuring 4 x 3 x 1.8 mm, flanked by two smaller 2 mm stones. Between them sit two rose-cut diamonds, each 1.5 mm, with their antique sparkle. The face of the ring measures 7.3 mm north to south and 18 mm across, rising 3.4 mm off the finger, with a 2 mm band at the back. It weighs 2.48 grams and is a US size 7.5.
