Some jewels feel like signposts from another lifetime, and this one, this extraordinary Georgian ring, looks as though it once belonged to someone who attended masked balls by candlelight and kept love letters tied in silk ribbon. Its face is a deep, impossible blue, the rich cobalt glass domed like a miniature pond at midnight. Floating at its center is a tiny silver urn, chimed with diamonds, a motif straight out of the mid-18th century language of sentiment: remembrance, devotion, the promise that memory endures. The old-cut diamonds flicker like sparks caught inside the glass, each one sealed beneath that glowing surface as if preserved for centuries untouched.

Handcrafted in about 1750, this extraordinary ring is set in 15 karat gold and built around a large, marquise-shaped Bristol glass plaque measuring 37 mm north to south, 21.5 mm across, and 5 mm deep. At its center sits a closed-back diamond of approximately 4.5 x 3.6 mm, framed by twenty-five rose-cut diamonds measuring 1–1.35 mm each. The ring’s overall dimensions are 40 mm north to south, 25.3 mm across, and 9 mm tall, with a band width of 6.7 mm. It weighs 13.45 grams, is unmarked, and has been tested. It is a US size 9.
