A wonderfully stylish little locket from around 1920, made at that fascinating moment when jewelers were pairing warm yellow gold with the cool white sheen of palladium. Its clean surface is ornamented with motif that has the graceful, stylized look of the late Edwardian period moving toward Art Deco. The locket opens on a side hinge to reveal two compartments for photographs or tiny keepsakes. Even the bail has been given engraved decoration, a lovely detail on such a small piece.

Made in England around 1920, the geometric shield shaped case is crafted in 9 karat gold and palladium. The locket measures 30.5 millimeters from top to bottom, including the bail, 20.1 millimeters across and 3.2 millimeters deep. It weighs 3.5 grams and is hallmarked “9ct & PALL” with the maker’s mark “H & J.W.”

Slim and beautifully proportioned, it has enough presence to wear alone while remaining wonderfully easy for everyday wear.
