A little architecture for the neckline, softened by a pearl. Sweeping silver curves meet an openwork fan, while fine blue enamel lines trace a rhythmic pattern across the surface. An oval amethyst anchors the composition, its purple depths balanced by the gentle glow of the pearl suspended below. Hanging from two fine lengths of chain, the pendant has a lovely sense of balance and movement.
Dating to circa 1910, this Jugendstil pendant brings together the flowing curves and stylized geometry of the Art Nouveau movement. Its broad, winglike silver outline is accented with deep blue enamel dots, arcs and angular motifs, with pierced silver ribs opening into a fan beneath the central amethyst. The amethyst measures 6 by 4 millimeters and 2.5 millimeters deep, with an estimated weight of 0.32 carats; the pearl drop measures 7 by 5.5 millimeters and 3.5 millimeters deep. The pendant measures 52 millimeters long, 29.3 millimeters across and 3.5 millimeters deep, and weighs 4.3 grams. The reverse is stamped “800” for silver of 800 parts per thousand and bears the maker’s mark “WB,” presently unidentified.
